A beautiful sunset from high up in the Trinity Alps at Summit Lake.
Deer Lake and Deer Pass
After hiking up from Upper Deer Valley, you reach Deer Lake which is just below Deer Pass. The Four Lakes Loop will go just below the pass and traverse across the top of the bowl to the other pass just off the right side of the picture.
Upper Deer Valley
After dropping down into the valley below Deer Pass, Deer Lake, and Silago Peak you are treated with beautiful views of the contrasting geology above you.
Watch Your Step
With such beautiful views of the heart of the Trinity Alps it's hard to forget you're walking along loose rock on the side of a mountain. Make sure to watch your step and take time to enjoy the views.
Mt Silago and the Four Lakes Loop
Some beautiful exposed trail between the Four Lakes Loop and Bear Basin made for some great views of our next 2 days of hiking.
Upon cresting the pass we celebrated the amazing views of the Sawtooths and the granite heart of the Trinity Alps.
A Magical Ascent
The lush meadows gave way to shoulder high vegetation on the last bit of trail before the pass. One of the most beautiful sections of uphill I've ever hiked. Josh is lost in the beauty.
Upper Bear Basin Meadows and Seven Up Peak
Right before ascending Bear Basin to the junction that would take us to the Four Lakes Loop, we encountered some beautiful meadows that were made even more interesting by the haze from some local fires.
Entering Bear Basin
It was a really dry year and the lower basin meadows were already dead by July. However not much further up the canyon that all would change.
Morris Meadow at twilight
Those same peaks I saw when first entering the meadow, only now basking in the twilight.
Last light on the Sawtooths and Morris Meadow
Morris Meadow is quite a beautiful location despite the crowds. A great place to base camp and then day hike higher up the canyon.
A view of Morris Meadow from camp. Warning, Morris Meadow is a popular destination for lots of campers. However, watching deer play and eat in the meadow at sunset without a care in the world for all the people made it much more enjoyable.
Walking along Stuart Creek
Once you get up above Morris Meadow the trail goes through some beautiful fern filled forest until you reach the more exposed upper part of the canyon.
